Signature Style

Signature Style...
Have you ever really thought about what is your signature style? What feeling do you feel when you think about you and what things you are attracted to? I am in the home area of this question, but signature style finds itself in ever facet of our life.
What do you feel when you walk into the door of your home? Are there memories of family trips or vacations? Are your casual or formal? What scents do you smell when you come into your home? Living is truly a multi-sensory accomplishment. When you come home you want to feel like the outside matches the inside. There are several steps you can take when finding your signature style.
Touch: what kind of Feeling do you feel when you come in your home? Do you have a lot of differing textures? Slipping into a soft couch is what a lot of people call comfort, while others would rather sacrifice comfort for style. Envision yourself as your living room. Would you say you are more comfortable and elegant like a Sunday morning? Or are you daring fun and exciting like a Friday night out?
Taste : I'm sure you may not eat any home decor you have about, unless it is a fruit bowl. But you can definitely use this area to think about meshing your style of cooking into decor. I personally love Indian food, the spicier the better. Those foods have found themselves being a palate for my living and bedroom; Exciting tandoori mustard for the living room and a spicy red paprika for my bedroom on the accent wall.
Smell : What smell do you smell when you come home? I remember that when it was springtime in Ohio we had this HUGE lilac bush in our front yard of the house we lived in on Cline Ave. Every time I think about spring I can remember opening the windows and fresh air filled with lilac would fill the room. Sometimes when I want to perk up my house I use a boiling pot of water and vanilla drops in the pot. This also is wonderful to use with orange or lemon or lime peels. And you don't have to use all of that toxic room spray. *Very Green, Very Nice to the Planet*
Sight : What do you see when you come into your front door? Is it a pile of bills? Is it laundry that needs to be folded? Make your home a relaxing place of refuge from the outside world. Using ordinary objects to sort through the mess and put them in a "pretty package" can help take the clutter and the ugliness away. I recently had one of my fellow consultants suggest our Florentine Bucket (page 42 of the catalog...follow the link) as a good item to collect mail by the door until you can sort it. If you are as crazy about the Tuscan 'old world' look as I am it makes a great accent.
Hear : This could be my most favorite. My husband and I when we got married gave CDs we made up with our "mood music" from our weddings reception. It was a lot of Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Stevie wonder, and other great music dotted in between. What music is the soundtrack of your life? Is it Jazz? Hip hop? Rock and roll? Blues? You can use these influences to set your signature style and translate it not only into music but mood in a room. You could take the soft subtle flow to jazz to pick a color for an accent wall. Or the bass of a hip hop track to choose an art piece or a sculpture.

Hosting a Spring Tea

If April Showers bring May flowers then we are in for a bountiful May!
I would like to share just a "little taste" of what my Taste of Home Entertaining hosts get when they host a party with me. Not only do they get to be with their friends and family, they learn great tips for entertaining and get a FREE SHOPPING SPREE of all of their favorite products. You may be saying to yourself I have done a home party before, but not one so EASY and not one where you have ME to help you earn as many FREE products as you want! But more of that later... I want help you to learn about Hosting a Spring Tea.

When I first thought of this theme I thought about how easy it could be for my hosts, as a stay at home mom of 2 girls under 3 (Indigo turning 3 in August, Nathania turning 1 this month) I know when it comes to entertaining time is at a premium. Taste of Home Entertaning is equal parts inspiration, preperation and presentation. When you think of inspiration for spring, what do you immediately think of? I think of green verdant plants flowering into bloom. I think of outdoors and the warm breezes felt on your skin while sitting in your favorite rocking chair. I think of lilacs sweet blossoms filling the air (this is a special childhood memory of mine from Ohio where I was raised) Use that inspiration to set a menu for your special guests.
Use the 3S's something Sweet, something Savory and something to Sip on. Wouldn't petit fours be beautiful with those tiny candied flowers as your sweet? Or even easier, and semi homeade make cupcakes and decorate them with candied flowers. I have seen some really beautiful sugar flowers and hey are very easy to make and even easier to purchase at your bakery supply store. For something Savory why not go on our sister website for Taste of Home Magazine and look up quiche recipes. You could take advantage of the best produce for Spring and try an Asparagus Quiche. For something to sip on, the highlight is the tea. The tea could be a orange pekoe, an earl grey or why not even try a green jasmine tea? Teas are in such bounty. you can find entire websites dedicated to educating yourself about teas and tea culture.
